The Newborn Nurse, LLC, founder and owner, Rachel, is a native Nashvillian who graduated in 2005 from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has worked for 17 years as a Mother-Baby Registered Nurse, and also has experience in labor and delivery, high and low risk antepartum, high and low risk postpartum, NICU, and extensive lactation experience. Having worked over 21,000 hours at the bedside of moms and babies, and taken care of over 11,000 newborns, Rachel’s greatest passion is educating and supporting new moms and providing skilled and nurturing newborn care. Even though Rachel is a trained medical professional, she loves holistic and natural methods of treatment, care, and diet, and tries to incorporate both schools of thought in her nursing practice, healing, and life.
In addition to bedside, hands-on nursing, she also taught at the Middle Tennessee State University College of Nursing, Bachelor of Science program, working as a clinical instructor for newborn nursery and postpartum clinicals, and taught lecture to students on “The Normal Newborn”.
She recently finished a great travel adventure as a nanny on the road for a country music artist for two and a half years, caring for, and taking care of her toddler son. She traveled extensively with their family, lived on a tour bus, and split her time off the road between Nashville and New York City.
Rachel developed the idea for The Newborn Nurse when she discharged new mothers home from the hospital, but felt like they really needed more support those first few days and weeks at home. She is a Certified Postpartum Doula (CPD) though the CAPPA organization, and holds certifications for BLS (Basic Life Saving CPR), and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
She has been awarded the prestigious “40 Under 40” Award from her Alma Mater, the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, an award that recognizes 40 alumni under the age of 40 “who have excelled personally and professionally since completing their degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.” She was also recently highlighted in the UT Knoxville College of Nursing 50th anniversary magazine. She is a proud Vol, and honored to be able to point back to the collegiate campus where her nursing endeavor all began.
Rachel’s interests include: loving Jesus, babies, children, helping new families, extensive traveling, lifelong learning, Hot Yoga, reading, church, Haiti missions, running, cycling class, daily naps, nature, hiking and camping, spending time with her friends, family and neighbors, volunteering, live music, encouraging others and trying to make the world a better place, and loving on her 2 darling nieces!
